Quick answer: A UPI QR code is just your UPI ID (like 9876543210@ybl or shop@okaxis) written in a standard format that every UPI app understands. Make one below: type your UPI ID and name, optionally add a fixed amount and a note such as an invoice number, and download a printable "Scan and pay" poster or the plain code. It never expires, needs no sign-up, and the money goes straight from the customer's bank account to yours with no fee. Test it with ₹1 from another app before you print.
Small shops, tutors, freelancers, home bakers and anyone collecting money for a group trip use UPI QR codes every day, but the code inside an app is often hard to find, can't include a fixed amount and doesn't print well. Some "QR generator" sites also send your payments through their own links or switch codes off after a free trial. The code made here contains only your own UPI ID, so it keeps working for as long as your UPI ID does.
Before printing, scan the code with your own phone and check that your name appears correctly. Pay ₹1 to yourself from a second app to be sure. The code holds your UPI ID directly, so it never expires and works without this website.
Made on your device. Your UPI ID is not sent anywhere.
Where to Find Your UPI ID
- Google Pay: tap your photo, then your UPI ID is shown under your name (it often ends in @okhdfcbank, @okicici, @okaxis or @oksbi).
- PhonePe: tap your profile picture; the UPI ID (often ending @ybl, @ibl or @axl) is listed under UPI settings.
- Paytm: tap your profile; the UPI ID (often ending @ptyes or @paytm) appears at the top of the UPI section.
- BHIM or your bank's app: look under Profile or UPI ID.
If you have several UPI IDs, use the one linked to the bank account where you want the money to arrive.
Fixed Amount or Open Amount?
| Use | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Shop counter, stall, donations | Leave the amount empty | The customer types what they owe each time |
| A bill, invoice or event ticket | Enter the amount and a note such as the invoice number | The payer can't type the wrong amount, and you can match payments to invoices |
| Splitting a trip or dinner | Enter each person's share | Send the image in the group chat and everyone pays the same |
The note appears in your bank statement and the payer's app, which makes it much easier to see who paid for what.
Personal UPI ID or a Business QR?
A personal UPI ID works well for occasional payments and small sellers. If you take many payments a day, the business or merchant QR offered free by most banks and UPI apps adds useful extras: a sound box or instant voice alert for each payment, daily settlement reports and a business name shown to customers. Either way, UPI payments to merchants are free for the merchant in most cases, unlike card machines. You can use this generator with a business UPI ID too, to make a cleaner poster.
Staying Safe With UPI QR Codes
- You never scan a QR code to receive money. Scanning and entering your UPI PIN always sends money out of your account. Anyone who says "scan this to get your refund or prize" is running a scam.
- Check your printed code now and then. Fraudsters sometimes paste their own QR sticker over a shop's code. Laminate yours and scan it yourself every few weeks.
- Confirm the name before paying. Every UPI app shows the receiver's registered name after scanning; tell customers to check it says your name.
- Watch for confirmation in your own app, not a screenshot from the customer. Fake payment screenshots are a common trick at busy counters.
Printing Tips
- Print at least 5 cm (2 inches) square for a counter, larger if people scan from further away.
- Keep the white border around the code; phones need it to find the code.
- Use matte or laminated paper to avoid glare from shop lights.
- Add the same code to your invoices with the invoice maker so customers can pay immediately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a UPI QR code expire?
No. A static UPI QR code contains your UPI ID directly, so it works for as long as that UPI ID is active. Codes from this tool don't pass through any website.
Is there a fee for receiving money by UPI?
For most people and small businesses, no: UPI payments from bank accounts carry no fee for the sender or the receiver. Some payments made through prepaid wallets or credit cards on UPI can carry a merchant charge.
Can I add an amount to my UPI QR code?
Yes. Enter the amount before downloading and the payer's app opens with that amount filled in. Leave it empty for a general code where customers type the amount.
Is it safe to share my UPI QR code?
Yes. A UPI QR code only lets people send money to you; it can't be used to take money out of your account. Never share your UPI PIN or an OTP.
How much can someone pay me through UPI?
Most person-to-person UPI payments are limited to ₹1 lakh per transaction, and banks set their own daily limits. Some categories of merchant payments have higher limits.
